Empty pockets and fasten buttons.
Ensure pockets are empty and fasten all buttons/zippers to prevent uneven folding.
Turn inside out.
Turn the trench coat inside out (especially for styles with a waterproof coating) to reduce surface friction and protect the fabric.
Lay flat.
Lay the trench coat flat with the back facing up, smoothing out wrinkles at the collar, shoulders, and sleeves.
Fold sleeves.
Fold the sleeves towards the back (cuffs aligned with the sides of the garment), or fold them back along the shoulder line, maintaining symmetry.
Fold the garment in half.
Fold about 1/3 of the way up from the hem (to the waist), then fold the shoulders down so the collar is near the hem.
Alternatively, fold vertically in half (left half to right half), then roll it into a long roll (suitable for travel).
